I chose the news story because it is slightly witty and describes the article perfectly. I have kept the background blank to make the image and text stand out more.

I like the design of the contents page and main page. However, the main page has a bit too much writing on it which is more typical of a newspaper. This detracts from the magazine style. I chose the name 'My Sussex Downs College Magazine' Because I was originally thinking about a cross-campus magazine, however, I made it into a lewes only magazine, and kept the title. I think the title is easily recognizable. I think that if I could do it again, I would do somethings differently. For example, I would use less text on the main page, and design it more like a magazine than a magazine-Newspaper Hybrid. I would also use more colours in the design than white, black and green. I made the contents page like it is so it has some sense of design, whilst not confusing the reader, which is quite sensible in my opinion. The images I was thinking of were images of Lewes College Campus, but they could be three images from the main articles. It's design is simplistic but functional. I would prefer a different design, but the ones I have come up with dont work that well.

Overall, I think it does what it is meant to do, and does it well. However, if I had done what I said above, it would be a better overall piece.

However, I have decided that the image on the main page should be larger to accomodate the space left on the page. This will though, make it seem more like a newspaper, in that newspapers have a large image(s) and a paragraph or two based on these images, as well as a small indication of what will be in it that week. I also am removing the Text at the bottom. This adds to the amount of text and is not needed.

My Contents page will be the same as it is on my design, because, less is more. If I really crammed in everything, it would look overly complicated, so by having a simple layout, I can avoid confusion among the readers.

The first image is good because he is looking straight at the camera. In the second image he has been distracted when the shot was taken, meaning that he is not looking straight at the camera. The third shot was a mistake in shooting on my part. While taking the shot, I moved the Camera thinking it had taken the picture, whereas, it had not. Leaving half his face off the picture.

Preliminary task

For my preliminary task, I will be making the cover page for a re-written SDC magazine. My first task is to take a picture of a person in a suitable background, to be placed on the cover page. It is important to note that this person has to be photographed in a medium-close up. This is where the Chest and upwards of a person is pohotgraphed. The angle of this photograph is important but because this is an early stage task, I think that a straight on shot will suffice.
